Seychelles Military

Seychelles is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean. It has a population of around 98,000 people as of 2020. Seychelles is an independent state and part of the African Union since 2018. The country has a military and defense force, including an army, navy, air force, and gendarmerie. Seychelles’ defense forces are responsible for protecting the country’s borders and providing security within its borders. The country also relies on regional organizations such as the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) for defense. The IOC is a joint effort between 20 Indian Ocean nations to provide security for its member states. It includes naval patrols in territorial waters, air surveillance, and various other security measures. Defense

The defense of Seychelles comprises (2009) 200 men enlisted squad and consists of a company. Semi-military security forces amount to 450 men. The material is outdated and of Soviet origin. Seychelles Army

The Seychelles have a common military force that includes a land component, a coast guard and a small air component. The total force figures for the Seychelles Armed Forces are 420 active personnel (2018, IISS). As part of its anti-piracy operations, the United States operates combat drones from the Seychelles.

The land component has a strength of 200 active personnel. Materials include six clearing trucks and anti-aircraft artillery. An air component has a strength of 20 active personnel and five light transport aircraft.

The Coast Guard has a force of 200 active personnel, including 80 marines, and eight patrol vessels.
